The 10 Best Shows of 1990s Nickelodeon

I admit, I grew up in the 1990s, and when I came home from school, I watched Nickelodeon. When I was home on the weekends, when I wasn’t playing, I was watching it. In 1992, when my family went on a trip to Walt Disney World in Orlando, we went on a tour of the Nick Studios; a particular highlight was seeing the Roundhouse studio (I wanted to see a taping of Family Double Dare, but when you’re six, the nuances behind the concept of working something into your schedule were lost on me).

It’s hard to believe that those days were so long ago, and now, I would need to load the DirecTV guide to find the channel, but there were a number of shows which stood out. Of course, I remember many of them, and there are plenty to name which won’t make this list. When you’re a little kid, it can be hard to make critical value judgments on television shows — or anything, for that matter — but I believe I can narrow this list down to the ten best and most enjoyable series from the golden age of Nickelodeon.

Nick run: 1991-1996, 1999-2000

The Midnight Society met every Saturday night on our TV screens, and as a kid, I have to say that some episodes of this show scared the living shit out of me.

Are You Afraid of the Dark? was a Canadian-produced TV show which had a relatively long run on Nickelodeon, focusing on teenagers meeting in the woods in the middle of the night telling ghost stories. Even today, decades after they aired and seeing clips as adults, the plots seem pretty watchable to me.
