Analysis
Dropped out: Virginia, Mississippi State
Newcomers: Temple, New Mexico
Almost made it: Harvard, Gonzaga
The top three are unchanged from last week, and short of conference tournament upsets (or any other upsets the rest of the way), those are three of your #1 seeds right there. As of this moment, the fourth one will probably go to Duke over Kansas, but it’s relatively close.
Michigan State is getting very hot and they rise to #6. Sparty is a solid two seed right now, but you never know what else they could be if things continue to break right.
Indiana was going to make a big move up in the rankings this week, that is, until they lost to Iowa yesterday. In fact, many teams in the middle and bottom of the pack did some losing, which led to some odd shifts up and down as we tried to figure out who belonged where.
New Mexico and Temple definitely deserved to be ranked this week, and San Diego State just barely got back in. Virginia and Mississippi State didn’t have enough juice this time. Gonzaga had a good chance, but they lost to San Francisco on Saturday.
